2021 SEASON REVIEW - TCR CHAMPIONSHIP

Wednesday 22nd September 2021

The TCR UK Championship was to present many of the ups and downs of motor racing and a brief summary of Jac’s 2021 TCR UK season is as follows:

SILVERSTONE was to present a significant challenge as Jac’s CUPRA was found to be under powered and struggled for straight line speed. In contrast, the Hyundai’s had a significant speed advantage over everyone gaining 5 of the 6 podium places. Jac was to finish 7th in Race 1 and suffered a puncture during Race 2 which prevented him from finishing.

CASTLE COMBE saw the PMR CUPRA back up to pace as the team had found the cause of the power loss exhibited at Silverstone. Jac finished Race 1 in 2nd place but was to suffer a 5 place penalty for movement on the grid, The on track winner, Max Hart, was disqualified from the race which promoted Jac to 6th.   Jac made a great start from 6th in Race 2 only to be hit when placed third on lap 1 which spun him off. He was working his way back towards the front when a gearbox fault finished his afternoon with a non-finish.

BRANDS HATCH saw Jac carrying maximum success ballast due to his performance at Castle Combe and managed a creditable 3rd in Race 1. The weekend went downhill from there as he was hit in Race 2 and needed to retire the car and although the team had done a great job in getting the car ready for Race 3, it was found to have a radiator leak when going to the grid which prevented him from starting.

OULTON PARK showed the true pace of the car and driver and Jac won Race 1 by over 9 seconds. Disappointingly the CUPRA had a power steering fault which caused Jac to have to stop the car in Race 2. He managed to restart the car and regain some places finishing 11th overall.

ANGELSEY was another meeting with maximum success ballast on board and Jac had an early off in Race 1 due to cold tyres. He managed to recover to 10th place but the car struggled to carry the additional weight on such a fast track.

ANGELSEY (continued) Race 2 was packed with incident with numerous cars off the track and a flurry of mechanical failures. Through the carnage Jac manged to get his lumbering CUPRA to 4th.

DONINGTON again showed the car and driver at it’s full potential. Jac was to finish Race 1 in third on track after suffering an oil pressure drop right at the end of the race dropping him from 2nd. (He was to gain Championship points for 2nd due to a non-scoring guest driver). Race 2 saw one of the best overtakes of the season by Jac who went on to comfortably win the race. There was a third race of the meeting where Jac was hit after what looked like a clean overtaking move as he took the lead. It was to put Jac in the gravel at Old Hairpin and out of the race which summed up his Championship challenge.

It was evident that Jac had the necessary pace to be a one of the front runners in the Championship and enjoyed some competitive racing. The TCR UK Championship was won eventually won by the returning Champion Lewis Kent who was to score in every round….a much deserved win.

Jac Constable, Power Maxed Racing “We had high expectations at the beginning of the season but despite all of the efforts of all of us in the PMR team our challenge was hindered by too many DNF’s. With 3 wins and 3 further podiums we were able to demonstrate our true pace at times but were just not able to maintain any consistency. Thanks to all at PMR for their efforts throughout the year along with everyone that helped and supported us throughout the season”.
